In and around Bayfield and Ignacio, the Pine River Valley Centennial Rotary Club is committed to building better communities by collecting donations, participating in local volunteer opportunities, and supporting local causes.

Highway Cleanup

The Pine River Valley Centennial Rotary works to protect our environment through our association with the “Adopt a Highway” program sponsored by the Colorado Department of Transportation. Annually, members of the club assemble with orange bags in hand and scour the barrow ditches of Highway 160, between Mileposts 103 and 106, picking up litter.

Habitat for Humanity Build

Habitat for Humanity brings together individuals and groups to help eliminate sustandard housing by providing volunteer opportunities to  donate time and resources to assist familiies achieve stability through home ownership.

Community Treehouse

The Community Treehouse is a non-profit program that provides a safe and fun environment for children and parents to learn and grow together. The Treehouse has fun indoor and outdoor spaces that provide age-appropriate materials to support large motor skills and positive social/emotional development and a Parent Lounge where parents can work or study while their children are supervised.

Pine River Shares

Pine River Shares is an organization that unites residents of the Pine River Valley and affords them the opportunity to share their knowledge, skills and resources. In addition to financial support, members of the Pine River Valley Centennial Rotary assist the mission of Pine River Shares by serving during Community Dinners and purchasing and roasting turkeys for the Annual Thanksgiving Community Dinner.

Navajo Solar Lights Project

The Navajo Solar Lights Initiative (NSL) is a project which brings modest solar powered electric lights and phone charger systems to Navajo households who live without utility connected power on the Navajo Reservation. To date, more than 150 installations have been made in five Navajo communities with priority given to households with children, elderly people, and people with disabilities.

Rotarians from various clubs (including members of the Pine River Valley Centennial Rotary Club), church groups, and other interested individuals have worked on installations.

Salvation Army
Bell Ringing

Often, the Holiday Season provides motivation for individuals to donate and there is one tradition that remains a constant reminder of those in need: The Salvation Army Bell Ringers! Annually, members of the Pine River Valley Centennial Rotary don their winter garb and enthusiastically greet patrons entering The Grocery Store in Bayfield with the clang of a bell.

Pine River Library Programs

The Pine River Library serves as a conduit for the Pine River Valley. It provides service to all age groups from preschool toddlers to valued senior citizens. If you need assistance, the Pine River Library probably provides a service for it. Some of the valued services include providing meeting spaces, study space, getting a passport, notary service, registering your vehicle and of course, providing knowledge through the literature.

Pine River Arts

Pine River Arts is devoted to supporting and promoting arts and culture in the Pine River Valley via House Concerts  (a musical concert or performance that is presented in someone’s home).  PRA also partners with other community arts organizations like Be Frank, the San Juan Symphony and Music in the Mountains by providing support and arranging joint ventures.
